ATTACK ON FIREFIGHTER: COURT GRANTS ACCUSED BAIL WITH CONDITIONS
Magistrate A. A. Adesanya of the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Bolade, Oshodi, has granted bail to one Waheed Balogun (40) arraigned before the Court over an attack on a firefighter while carrying out his official duties.
The Judge stated the accused is granted release on the payment of #200,000:00 among other conditions, just as she adjourned the hearing until the 19th day of December 2023, to allow all involved parties to perfect their matters.
Speaking on the matter after the adjournment, Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) said the Agency initiated legal proceedings against the accused, Waheed Balogun, for an attack on a Firefighter in October at 167 Egbe Road, Cele Egbe, Ikotun, Lagos.
She emphasised that the incident constitutes one of 12 assaults against operatives of the Agency in 2023. The Director restated the LSFRS’ unwavering commitment to undertaking a comprehensive legal process to ensure justice is served and to establish a precedent that deters similar actions in the future.
The accused, in his defence, had contended that he attacked the Firefighter for obstructing his tricycle/motorcycle park operations with a Fire truck.
